Baby Wood is a GIRL! We are so excited and feeling so blessed!
We wanted to have some kind of party or event around our gender reveal, but didn't want to have our friends and family stand around and watch us pop a balloon. The event planner in me couldn't just "do nothing!" Eventually, I came up with an all white dinner party for our parents/grandparents-to-be and I love how it turned out. I'm going to share the details from the party and everything is linked at the end of this post.
My husband and I found out the gender at few weeks ago, but wanted to share it in a special way. I wanted keepsake photos to have memories of the event, but I didn't want to do a big party. We settled on an intimate dinner party and invited both of our parents to join us for an official gender reveal (they were thrilled!)
I didn't get too crazy with the decor, and stuck to an all-white floral runner, made from baby's breath (appropriate!) and a large white balloon swag, complete with a few disco balls, in true Rhonda fashion. ;)
I decided to order a cake for the actual "reveal." And wow. The cake was delicious (I love cake!) The idea was that we would have a white cake and cut into it to reveal either a pink or blue interior, depending on boy/girl. Lucky for our cake, it's a girl, so I ordered a strawberry cake with strawberry italian cream filling and vanilla buttercream (wow!). I ordered from Dallas Affaires in Lakewood and it was my first time to use them, so I was a little nervous because I wanted to the cake to be reallyyy good and picture-perfect! Well, it was! They brought my cake vision to life (see my gender reveal party inspiration here!)
I wore a white and silver sequined dress and I wore the shoes from my wedding - perfect! I love this theme because you can go as dressy or casual as you want.
When it was time to cut the cake, we lined everyone up (I was so nervous!) and got ready to show the grandparents the big reveal. Look how happy they were! Haha I love the photos we got of their reactions - so priceless! My parents are on the left and Adam's parents are on the right. We are praying for our daughter to have some Jenkins' height! ;)
We tried to cut the perfect slice to hold up for everyone to see! The best part of this reverse-style gender reveal is that it's perfect for someone who isn't super expressive/emotive...if you are concerned that you won't have a "photo-worthy" reaction, doing a reverse reveal could be a good fit for you!
I actually got rid of my bar cart not long ago...it was cheap and old and it looked pretty rough after years of hosting parties! I ordered this one from Amazon and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks! It was the perfect size and style for this event and events to come.
My goodness the cake was good. So, a little confession... we knew that the photos would be part of the event, so I adjusted our dinner party start time to have optimal natural light. SO instead of sitting through dinner, making everyone wait for the big reveal, we opted to cut the cake first and take advantage of the daylight! It was a huge hit! I thought we would cut the cake, then eat dinner, but everyone sat right down and started eating their cake as an appetizer! LOL! I couldn't believe it! Such a fun memory from a really sweet evening.
