In case you missed it, we bought a new house last week and you can read our new house blog post! It was such an exciting week and we are feeling so thankful that we were able to get this property in Dallas! We'll be moving this week, and have so many ideas for the house. It's what I call a fixer-upper, although it's not falling apart, it just needs some love! I'm excited to dive into projects and design decisions (even though choosing the paint color took me almost a week of research! lol)
There is definitely a lot to do, and it's easy to get overwhelmed by it all, so we are trying to take things super slow and not create pressure around a timeline just yet. But there's one thing that we wanted to do right away... dedicate our house to the Lord! Right after we closed on the house, we went over to walk the house.
We had prepared a few Bible verses ahead of time that we wanted to pray over the house and I wanted to write specific verses on the walls of each room. Writing on the walls is symbolic, and will be covered up by paint, of course, but it's just a way to visualize and symbolize dedicating our house and our time there to the Lord.
Of course, then we popped a bottle of champagne and celebrated our new house!
It was a fun night and I'm so glad we took the time to do this. I want to share a few of the verses that we wrote down, because some are serious and some are kind of funny (lol Adam!)
I've seen people do this when building a home from the ground up, but I don't see why I shouldn't do it when moving into a new house!
As part of our wedding, our guest book was a Bible, and we asked guests to highlight their favorite verse to share with us, so a few of our verses for our house came from this Bible and were shared with us by our wedding guests. This is extra special since we only had 34 people at our wedding, so it was all family and close friends!
Here are a few of the verses we chose:
Philippians 1:6 - He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 16:3 - Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
Hebrews 12:14 - Strive for peace with everyone and for holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
James 1:19 - Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.
Joshua 24:15 - As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
2 Corinthians 12:9 - My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
Proverbs 3:24 - When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
1 John 4:19 - We love because he first loved us.
Ephesians 4:26-27 - Do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
Numbers 6:24-25 - The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
Philippians 2:3 - Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
LOL I'll let you guess who wrote this one about a man and his wife being naked. Haha! I walked into the bedroom and saw Adam writing this one...it was not on my list! Ha!
