It's Spooky Season and that means we are having a little fun today with Foodie Friday! I'm showing you two ways to turn your beverages into creepy concoctions for your Halloween parties! Both of these methods work for any drinks, not just cocktails, so have some fun!
Up first: DRY ICE, of course!
I love using dry ice to add a spooky flair to my Halloween beverages! Most large grocery stores carry dry ice seasonally; it's best to call ahead to make sure there is some in stock, or try to reserve a block or two over the phone! Dry ice is sold by weight, and usually one block is plenty for an entire party. I like to put a chunk into a beverage dispenser filled with water so guests can have fun staying hydrated. ;)
When serving drinks with dry ice, it's important to make it clear that dry ice should not be touched directly because it is SO cold and can burn your skin! It's safe to drink something with dry ice in it, but the ice should not be ingested!
Next: Use CHARCOAL to get your beverages spooky dark!
I wanted to serve a black drink, but wasn't quite sure how to do it. I saw one recipe that used SQUID INK. *um no thank you!*
I found a few suggestions about using activated charcoal powder, so I came up with a hack to do it cheaper! Buy activated charcoal supplement pills (cheaper than a tub of powder!) and open a few capsules! It only takes about half a capsule for one drink, so they go pretty far!
Most black cocktail recipes that I saw were complex and had quite a few ingredients to get a darker color, but this cocktail was made with charcoal and the color is so good! The charcoal is odorless and tasteless, so it doesn't affect your recipe at all!
